Tomando como referente el texto original de Cervantes y la interpretación
que del caballero andante plasmó Miguel de Unamuno en Vida de Don Quijote y
Sancho, el Teatro Taller de Colombia presenta un espectáculo para calle y
espacios abiertos que nos muestra el retorno a su casa del derrotado personaje tras dejar sus andanzas.
Con un lenguaje escénico basado en el teatro visual y de imágenes, esta
obra dirigida por Mario Matallana & Jorge Vargas utiliza como recurso
escenográfico las características del entorno urbano en el que se presenta y
una serie de elementos escénicos fabricados con guadua que poseen una
estética entre arcaica y contemporánea en una versatilidad que les permite
generar diferentes lecturas de la pieza.
La locura y la cordura, el odio y el amor, las ataduras y la libertad, son
temas que en el montaje se presentan combinando drama y humor en un
planteamiento crítico sobre las contradicciones del poder en la sociedad.
Las aventuras del caballero de la triste figura son recreadas en un lenguaje
eminentemente visual y expresivo que une la sabiduría castiza de la
historia de Cervantes con la tradición e interpretación personal que el
grupo hace sobre el Quijote.
Ocho actores, son los encargados de representar esta adaptación que enfatiza
en la soledad y la apatía desesperante que ahoga a Don Quijote, cuando de
regreso a su terruño, delira e idealiza el mundo de desarraigo y de locuras
que ha dejado atrás.
Esta pieza teatral con una duración de 1 hora está dirigida a todo tipo de
público y se puede presentar tanto en espacios abiertos como en una sala de
teatro, para lo cual, también fue adaptada.

Taking its cue from Cervantes’ original text and the interpretation of the wandering gentleman generated by Miguel de Unamuno in his Vida de Don Quijote y Sancho (The Life of Don Quixote and Sancho), Teatro Taller de Colombia presents a street-theatre show for open spaces that shows us the worn-out man’s return home after leaving his wandering days behind.
With a simple scenic language based in visual and imagistic theatre, this work, directed by Mario Matallana and Jorge Vargas, uses the characteristics of the urban surroundings as the background resource for the show, and a series of scenic elements welded together, providing an aesthetic balance between the archaic and the contemporary with a versatility that supports multiple interpretations.
Madness and sanity, hate and love, attachments and freedom, are the themes of this production which combines drama and comedy in a critical illumination of the contradictions of power in society. The adventures of the sad knight are recreated in a vocabulary eminently visual and expressive that unites the pure-blooded wisdom of Cervantes’ story with the tradition and personal interpretation that the ensemble brings to Quijote.
Eight actors are in charge of representing this adaptation that emphasizes the solitude and desperate apathy that is choking Don Quijote. When he returns to his home terrain he deliriously idealizes the world of uprooting and madness that he’s left behind.
This hour-long theatre piece is geared for all audiences and can be presented in open air spaces as well as theatres, for which it has also been adapted.
